In the spring of 1953, a group of progressive, like-minded people came together and started a Unitarian fellowship in Bakersfield. What started in people's homes eventually became the congregation that we are today.

Through the years, a persistent core of passionate and dedicated members have held the fellowship together and new programs have been gradually instituted, including Religious Education, Social Justice Commitees, Covenant Groups, and others.

In 1961, a new era for the denomination began when Unitarians and Universalists came together to form what we are today. For the balance of the 1960s and through the 1970s, the fellowship carried on with its various programs while membership continued to fluctuate.
