Retreats ~
Various UU Communities hold several opportunities each year to commune with others UU and non UU alike. Some of them include the Men's Retreat, Women's Retreat, and UU Family Camp. More informations can be found at the Camp de Benneville Pines website.
Film Fellowship~
Meeting on the first Saturday of each month, this group allows us to be entertained by a thought-provoking film and later enter into discussion about the film. Previous showings have included, "Milk" "Warm Springs" & "Lawrence of Arabia."
Book Club~
The book club meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Activity Center of the Rosewood Retirement Community, 1301 New Stine. Unlike many book clubs, each person brings in his/her own book to introduce to the others. For more information,
contact Larry Taylor at 661-834-0529 or ltaylor@csub.edu
Bible Study~
UU's share some very unique views of the Bible. We often look upon the scripture from a literary, historical, & contemporary perspective. We meet on the second Sunday of every month, at 12pm, after our worship service. Our discussions typically focus on one section of the Christian Text. Contact facilitator Larry Taylor with any questions at 661-834-0529 or ltaylor@csub.edu
Community Outreach~
Our 2nd UU principle, to promote justice, equity, and compassion in human relations, calls us to help others when in need. Some of the work that we do involves food drives, school supply drives, clothing drives, fundraisers, volunteer work, & last but not least, our community library project, which provides a safe haven for children of all ages to read and be read to.
Literacy Tutors~
If you have an hour and a half each week that you’d be willing to use to come into a classroom to work with selected students, then Cydney Henderson, the Community Reading Project Coordinator at Virgina Avenue School. This fall, literacy tutors will come to my home to get their tutor packets and talk about the way the program will work. Contact Cydney at crhcan@lightspeed.net.
Circle Suppers~
Circle Suppers are small groups enjoying a potluck dinner to share food and fellowship. Every month the participants will be randomly divided into groups of 6 or 8. The Circle Supper can be what you want it to be. You can have a 5 course meal, a soup and salad supper, a picnic, or a BBQ. You can use your fanciest china, your everyday dishes, or paper. The whole idea is to have a fun evening getting to know other members and friends of the Fellowship a little bit better. If you are unable to host you are still encouraged to participate. We will partner you with someone who can provide a space and you can coordinate the dinner and provide the entrée. Contact Pat Berthold at pberthold@earthlink.net for more information.
